Married Lucretia Jessie Southby on September 10, 1853 in St. George Parish, Camberwall, Greater London, London, Surrey, England. They were the parents of eleven known children: Robert Joseph; John Augustus; Francis "Frank" William; Rosina "Rose" Jessie (all born in England); Walter Hubert (born in Canada); Eliza "Lizzie" Ann; Ernest Arthur; Grace; Frederick Alfred; Charles; and Eva Violet (all born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio).
Robert and Jessie came with their family from England to Canada, where Walter was born, sometime between 1862, when daughter Rosina was born, and 1864, when son Walter was born. From a biography written by a granddaughter of Rosina, the Woodman family came to the United States when Rosina was 3 months old though, so far, this has not been verified. Sons Robert, John, Frank and Walter all became naturalized citizens and each gave a different year from coming to the United States and all were just young boys at the time. Since Walter was born in 1864 in Canada, the date of arrival in the United States is up for debate.
Jessie stated in the 1900 Census, Riverside County, California, that she was the mother of fifteen children with nine living. So far, I have uncovered eleven children. It may be that the other four were born in England, Canada and/or in Ohio, United States.
