John F. Barthel of Emporia died at 10:05 o'clock Saturday morning at the home of his son, G. Barthel. He had been a resident of Emporia for 54 years. He came from Canada and lived at Americus a few years. He was born in Germany, Jan. 20, 1833, and was 98 years, 11 months, 12 days of age. He is the father of Mrs. Levi Emmel, Mrs. John Bamesberger and Mrs. Sam Bamesberger. He is also survived by six sons. They are Henry Barthel, Palestine, Texas; Edward Barthel, Atchison; Rev. B. Barthel, Topeka; Rev. G. F. Barthel, Kitchener, Ont.; and Gideon Barthel of Emporia. Mrs. John F. Barthel died 17 years ago.
