Services for the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Barthel, 98, of 330 E. 165h Ave., will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Moore Mortuary, E. 17th Ave. and Clarkson St. Burial will be in Crown Hill.
Barthel, a retired minister and resident of Denver 51 years, died Wednesday at Swedish Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born at Sebringville, Ont., Canada, on Feb. 19, 1873, and attended North Central College at Naperville, Ill. He married Pauline Kitzenberger at Emporia, Kan., in 1895; she died in 1926. He married Sada Lamb in 1927 at Pittsburgh, Pa.; she died in 1955.
Barthel entered the ministry of the Evangelical Church in 1893 and had pastorates for many years in Kansas and Missouri.
He came to Colorado in 1920 and was presiding elder of the Colorado Conference 16 years. He was pastor of Alameda Heights Evangelical Church until his retirement.
Barthel is survived by a son, Irvin S., and a daughter, Mrs. J. Neilson Brown, both of Denver; a brother, the Rev. George F. Barthel, Kitchener, Ont., Canada, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
