Paul F. Mauzy, 5311 Riverside Ave., prominent Muncie industrialist, died Thursday afternoon at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was 79 years of age.

Mauzy was president of Barclay Manufacturing Co. which he and the late Monroe Barber purchased in 1941 from former mayor Joseph Barclay. He sold his interests in the company in 1966 when he retired. Earlier, Mauzy and Sam Coulter organized in 1925 Coulter Boiler and Sheet Iron Co. which firm Mauzy also served as president.

Born in Rush County, he came to Muncie at age 7 with his parents, Homer G. and Rosa B. (White) Mauzy. He was graduated from Muncie High School and attended Eastern Indiana Normal Institute, now Ball State University. He first worked at the Interstate Automobile Co. plant, now part of the Delco Battery operation, and with the Hoosier Clutch Co.

When World War I erupted, he enlisted in the Army in late 1917. He and his wife, the former Mary Jane Neely, were married a month after his enlistment on Jan. 5, 1918.

He was a member of Friends Memorial Church, Muncie Rotary Club, Delaware Lodge 46, F&AM; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, and the Murat Shrine. He was a charter member of Beta Phi Sigma fraternity. He served on the boards and was a member of the Muncie Club and the Muncie Chamber of Commerce and was chairman of the Community Chest (now United Fund) campaign one year.

For many years, he played "Santa" for residents of the Delaware County Home at the annual Rotary Christmas party there.

Survivors in addition to his wife are four sisters, Mrs. D.C. (Ethel) Simes, Mrs. William H. (Ruth Mauzy) McFadden, Mrs. Ralph (Louise) Dragoo and Mrs. Donald G. (Rosabel) Holmes, all of Muncie; two nieces, Mrs. W.W. (Sarah) Gideon, Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Heeter, Muncie; and two nephews, Robert Simes and Tom Steck, both of Muncie.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Meeks Mortuary with Xen Harvey officiating. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and prior to the services Saturday.

The family asks that memorials be sent to Friends Memorial Church.
