In the passing of Rev. Arthur Maynor, who died on Dec. 3, Robeson County lost one of its best-known Indian religious leaders. At the time of his death Rev. Mr. Maynor was state moderator for the Holiness denomination, his work as evangelist and moderator carrying him to churches in North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. He had served pastorates at Mt. Olive Holiness church in Pembroke, Evergreen in Burnt Swamp township and Shiloh near Dunn.

He died at the age of 65 at his home in Pembroke, where he had been confined to bed for several weeks following a second stroke of paralysis. The funeral was conducted from Mt. Olive church where he had served as pastor for 11 years, and he was buried in St. Anna Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.

Rev. Arthur Maynor was born in Cumberland County on Oct. 30, 1882, son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Ann Jacobs Maynor. Later his parents moved to Robeson County. He was married on Feb. 12, 1901 to Pennie Lowry, who was a step-daughter of Steve Lowry, brother of the late Henry Berry Lowry. To this union were born 8 sons and 6 daughters, all of whom survive except one daughter. He and his wife also adopted a daughter.

He began his Christian life at the age of 14 years and joined Mt. Olive Holiness church in 1911. While serving as deacon of the church, he began evangelizing - a work which he continued, along with serving as church pastor, for 35 years.

This minister was very sincere and firm in his convictions. He enjoyed reading and praying with the unsaved, also visiting and fiving of his means to the sick. He was sociable and loved to meet everybody with a smile.

He was loyal to his family, church, community, state and county. He believed in organizations that would promote young people to higher standards of living. He was interested in education and higher learning for all people. His desire was to see his family, church, community, and country grow to the highest peak in life. he was always ready to fill his place any where he was called on.

Some of his last sayings in a letter to all the churches and Christian believer was "Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mine, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

"Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace. Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.

"The Lord be with you all, AMEN."
