Rev. Dr. Millard Woodrow Maynard, 86, born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Lumberton, went to be with his Lord on Sept. 5, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Saddletree Church of God in Lumberton. The body will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m.

A graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rocky Mount Memorial Gardens in Rocky Mount.

Millard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ernestine Smith Maynard; a son, Robert Maynard and wife Rita; daughters, Carol Maynard, Sandy McMillan and husband Bill; a sister, Stella Brewer; grandchildren, Chris and Jason Maynard, Jennifer Sterbens, Jerry Beck, Julie Klimala and husband Lee, Jessica and Billy McMillan; and great-grandchildren, Brian and Kaya Klimala.

He was preceded in death by his son Ernest Vann Maynard, his parents, the Rev. Arthur Maynor and wife Penny Maynor, his twin sister, Gladys; and 13 other sisters and brothers.

Millard dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age, held many important positions in the Church of God and was faithful to the end. He served as an evangelist, missionary, many years on the Cross Cultural Board and as the District Overseer in the Pembroke District. Millard was also appointed to the N.C. Board of Prisons by Gov. James B. Hunt.

Millard organized many churches and was responsible for the creation of the Church of God Tabernacle on U.S. 74 in Pembroke, which was later named the Rev. Dr. Millard Maynard Conference Center. Millard pastored the Saddletree Church for 25 years until ill health forced him to retire.

Millard was an amazing Christian man, loved by all, who never met a stranger, and loved everyone he met.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. today until at Saddletree Church of God in Lumberton.
