Funeral services for Luther Maynor, 72, of Pembroke, were held at Berea Baptist church on Sunday, May 22, with Rev. Tommy Sweat and Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Mr. Maynor died at the Scotland County Memorial hospital on May 19, after 3 years of declining health. He was a friend and neighbor to all who knew him. Anson Locklear sang a solo and the Baptist quartet sang three selections. Interment was made in the Berea cemetery.
Mr. Maynor was the father of 10 children: Lee Sanford Maynor of Cleveland, Ohio, Lacy and Justin Maynor and Mrs. Zeb Lowry of Pembroke, Miss Fossie Maynor of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Johnnie Morgan (deceased), Mrs. E. T. Lowry of Rowland, Luther V. Maynor of Bowling Green, Ky., Chacy Maynor of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. James Newton of Long Beach, California, one brother, W. D. Maynor of Pembroke. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maynor of Erwin, who moved to Robeson County. He was partly reared in Robeson.
Among those from a distance attending the funeral were: J.D. Maynor of Wildwood, Fla., James Maynor of Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Locklear of Dillon, S. C., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cagle and Mrs. Geneva Hood of Marion, S. C., Mrs. John Locklear of Clio, S. C., Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Maynor and Miss Rosa Maynor of McColl, S. C., Gene A. Lowry of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Ella Pate and family of Lumberton.
