John W. Morris, resident of Wayne County since 1900, passed away at his home thirteen miles west of Wayne last Thursday, February 7, after several months' illness. He had been in poor health for about three years but had failed rapidly the past few months. Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church southwest of Carroll with Rev. M. G. Jones in charge. Interment was made in Bethany cemetery.
Mr. Morris was born in Wales and was 72 (sic) years old August 14, 1928. He first came to this country when he was 12 years old, but returned a few years later. He made the trip to Wales three times. He married Miss Ellen Jones in Wales on August 20, 1876. Two children, William and Jane, were born in that country.
When the family came to the United States to make their home, they settled in Wymore, Neb. There they spent eight years. They then lived at Sparks, Cherry County, Neb., for ten years, coming to Wayne County twenty-eight years ago. They lived on the present farm the past twenty-six years.
Mrs. Morris passed away May 29, 1928, and she was buried on Decoration day last year. Deceased leaves the following children: William Morris, Ellis Morris, Mrs. Jane Edwards and Edwal A. Morris, all of near Winside, Mrs. Emily Jenkins of near Wayne, and Mrs. Sarah Ann Jenkins of near Carroll. He leaves twenty-six grandchildren. One brother, Carl Morris, of Alberta, Canada, also survives.
Mr. Morris was a member of the Congregational church near Carroll.
