Mrs. John W. Morris of near Carroll, passed away Tuesday of last week, and funeral service was held Memorial day at Bethany Presbyterian church southwest of Carroll. Rev. M. G. Jones, who had charge, writes the following tribute to deceased:
"Mrs. J. W. Morris who passed away Tuesday, May 29, was one of the truest, noblest women in Wayne County. Mrs. Morris was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jones in Penygroes of Camarfonshire (sic), Wales. She was born August 16, 1853. In infancy her mother passed away. She was given to the care of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Roberts who reared her with great care and love. In the year 1877 she was united in marriage with J. W. Morris. With two children, William and Jane, they came to America in the year 1883, settling in Wymore, Nebr., with four cents as their entire wealth. Seven years later they moved to Sparks, Cherry County, and remained there ten years, moving to Wayne County in 1899 where they since lived. Deceased leaves her husband and six children, namely: William, Ellis, Edwal and Jane of Winside, and Emily and Sara Ann Jenkins of Wayne. She also leaves twenty-six grandchildren and a host of friends.
Mrs. Morris joined the church thirty years ago and remained faithful to her convictions. Her entire life was spent in making life happier and pleasanter for all with whom she came in contact. She had learned the ministry of every true woman, that of attending well to her household duties an rendering continual joy to those around her by her winning disposition. All who knew her could not but say she was true to herself, to her associates and to her God. Mrs. Morris was respected and admired not on account of her fluent speech, her riches, influence and power but on account of her unassuming personality, her earnest zeal, her true devotion and good heart."
