John Logan. 79, who was a resident of the Traer community during more than half of his life and was the father of James W. Logan, of this place, died about 8:30 p. m. Saturday at the home of a son, John Jr., in Des Moines, following a two weeks’ critical Illness. The body was brought to Traer this week, and the funeral was held here at the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Alvin H. Boettcher, pastor, in charge. Music was furnished by the Traer men’s quartet. Pall bearers all were nephews of the decedent, either direct or by marriage, the list including Dean Logan, Paul Stoakes, Lynn Powell, Corliss Powell, Leonard Hulme, and Dave Wilson. Burial was in West Union Cemetery.
The decedent was a son of James and Janet Logan and was born October 1, 1854, at Sterling, Ill. At the age of 11 he came to Iowa with his parents in a covered wagon. He lived with his parents on a farm near Traer until his marriage in June 1884, to Marian Campbell, who died two years later. To this union was born one son – J. W. Logan of Traer.
On October 30, 1889, he was joined in marriage to Minnie Campbell. She died Apr 29, 1929. Three children survive from this marriage—Mrs. Helen Van Buskirk, of Ottosen, la.; Mrs. Lulu McCreary, of Adel; and John Logan Jr., Des Moines. Also surviving are six grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: James Logan, of Eagle Grove, Ia.; Horace, of Lohrville: Frank, of Estherville; Mrs. Kate Reed, of Rockwell City; Mrs. John Everts, of Centerview, Mo: and Robert Abe and Charles Logan, Mrs. Ed Stoakes, and Mrs. Garfield Powell all of the Traer vicinity.
Mr. Logan engaged in farming near here until short twenty-five years ago when he entered the elevator business at Bradgate, I. and elsewhere. A few years ago, he retired from active business to make his home with his children, principally at Adel and Des Moines.
