Funeral services will be held today at the Boettcher Funeral Home in Traer for Mrs. Agnes Logan Stoakes, 69, widow of the late Ed Stoakes and a member of a pioneer north Tama county family, who died Wednesday morning in Allen Memorial hospital at Waterloo. She had been critically ill since suffering a paralytic stroke early this month at Rockwell City, Iowa, where she had gone shortly before to assist in the care of a sister, Mrs. Charles Reed.

The Rev. B. T. Schwab, Traer Congregational pastor, will conduct the funeral. Music will be furnished by a Congregational men's quartet, accompanied by Miss Ruth Thomas. Flowers will be cared for by Mrs. Art Finks and Mrs. Ed Danker. Casket bearers will be Ed Powell, Hugh McLean, William Zimple, Will Danker, A. J. Calderwood and Henry Haack. Shortly after she was stricken on November 3, Mrs. Stoakes was brought back from Rockwell City to be cared for a t the home of her son, Paul, southwest of Traer. Her condition failed to improve, and on Monday she was taken by ambulance to the Waterloo hospital where her death occurred two days later.

Mrs. Stoakes was a daughter of James and Janet Logan, and was born March 12, 1871, on the Logan homestead southeast of Traer. She attended a rural school and Traer high school, and taught for eight years in Carroll, Oneida, and Grant townships. Her marriage to Edward Rider Stoakes took place December 14, 1898. The couple lived until 1932 on the farm three miles east of Traer now occupied by Joe B. Kucera. Then they lived for one year in Geneseo township before moving to Grant township where Mr. Stoakes died suddenly February 18, 1937 following a heart attack at the age of 66.

Mr. and Mrs. Stoakes were the parents of three children, one of whom died at birth. Surviving is one daughter, Janet, wife of Leonard Hulme, northwest of Traer and one son Paul living six miles southwest of Traer. Logan Campbell, a nephew, now of San Antonio, Texas was also reared from childhood by Mr. and Mrs. Stoakes, his mother having died when he was an infant. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell came here this week from Texas, arriving before Mrs. Stoakes death.

Mrs. Stoakes leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Charles Reed of Rockwell City; Robert Logan southeast of Traer; Mrs. John Everts of Centerview, Missouri; Frank Logan of Estherville, Iowa; and Mrs. Garfield Powell, southeast of Traer. Three grandchildren – Paul Arlo Hulme 13 years old, Margaret Hulme 10, and Leland Hulme 7 – survive. The decedent was a member of the Riley Congregational church of Traer and the Country club and local farm women's organizations.
