William Logan, president of the Farmers Savings bank of Traer and an almost life-long north Tama resident, died at his home here Thursday night of last week following a long illness of kidney disease and complications. He was 64 years old. The funeral service, held Sunday afternoon in the Congregational church, was one of the largest Traer has known in many years. Nearly forty relatives and friends w ere present from a distance, besides scores of local people.
The decedent was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Logan, and was born July 17, 1864, at Sterling, Illinois, coming to Tama county with his parents at an early age, he received his education in the rural schools of this vicinity He farmed for a few years, later forming a partnership with John Campbell, deceased, in the livestock business. He was one of the original members of the board of directors of the Farmers Savings bank, of Traer, and took an active part in the development of that institution. For several years he was vice president of the bank and since 1920 its president. He was a man of marked business ability and a large land owner.
Mr. Logan was a member of the Ripley Congregational church of Traer and for several years served as a trustee. He was active in the work of the Masonic order, being a member of Hespria lodge No 340. of Traer, of the Cedar Rapids consistory. No. 2; and of the El Kahir temple of the Mystic Shrine, of Cedar Rapids. The decedent was a member of a family of fourteen children and is survived by seven brothers and four sisters. The brothers are John, of Storm Lake, Iowa; James, of Eagle Grove. Iowa; Charles, Robert and Abe, all of Traer; Horace, of Lohrville Iowa; and Frank, of Estherville, Iowa. The sisters are: Katie, wife of Charles Reed, of Rockwell City, Iowa; Agnes, wife of Ed Stoakes, of Traer: Jennie, wife of John E verts, of Centerview, Missouri; and Sarah, wife of Garfield Powell, between Traer and Dysart. Other surviving relatives include fourteen nephews and fifteen nieces. The decedent was never married.
Mr. Logan first became afflicted with heart disease more than two years ago. He suffered repeated attacks, in late months at intervals of only a few weeks. A light stroke two months ago threatened for a time to result fatally, and after his recovery Mr. Logan made a trip to Rochester, Minnesota, for a clinical examination. Complications developed soon after his return, and about two weeks prior to his death he suffered another and still more severe attack. His condition was critical from that time until the end which came shortly after 11 a. m. Thursday night of last week. The funeral service Sunday was conducted by the Rev. A. W. Miles, of Earlville, Iowa, a former pastor of the local Congregational church. Burial was in West Union cemetery. Members of the local Masonic order had charge of the service at the grave.
