Sherman D. Barnes
Sherman D. Barnes, 49, of 1802 N. Allen St., State College, a native of the county, died unexpectedly at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, December 12, 1971, at the Bellefonte Community Hospital.
Born at Artemas April 26, 1922, he was a son of Dossie and Nancy May (Akers) Barnes. He was married in Huntingdon August 9, 1947, to the former Ada M. King, who survives, together with one son, Terry Alan, at home.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Snider of Armagh and Mrs. Blanche Bowser of New Paris, and five brothers, Roy of Brooks Mills, Merle of East Freedom, Elmer and [Al]Fred, both of New Enterprise, and Elden of Johnstown.
Mr. Barnes was an operating engineer for NuCo Brick Contractors of State College. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of these organizations, Cambria Lodge 278 of the F and AM; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg; the Jaffa Temple; the Centre County Shrine Club; the American Legion; Rininger-Hartle Post 9219 of the VFW in Alum Bank; Lodge 1600 of the B.P.O.E. in State College; and Bedford Royal Arch Chapter 255.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Funeral services: Wednesday, December 15, at 2 p.m., from the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury, with the Rev. Charles C. Graham, of Martinsburg, officiating. Burial in the Bedford County Memorial Park.
Friends will be received in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. this evening.
