Maude Elizabeth Cantrell was born 20 June 1901 in Lawrence County, Alabama. She was the daughter of William Harrison Cantrell and Joanna Drucilla Waldrip Cantrell. Shew grew up in Marshall and Cullman County, Alabama.

She married Spivey Eugene Burdette 8 April 1917 Marshall County, Alabama when she was 15 Years of age. Maude and Spivey had three sons together; Clarence Duward Burdette, Ermon Eugene Burdette, and Earnest Thomas Burdette.

Maude had a sister, Roxy Myrtle Cantrell Burdette, who was married to Spivey's brother, Henry Grady Burdette. Myrtle died when the flu epidemic came through leaving two small children and a young baby. Maude and Spivey took the small baby, Thomas Edward Burdette and raised him as their own. Maude an Spivey eventually divorced.

Maude married James Daniel Straiton 14 August 1932 in Lincoln, Tennessee. There were no children from this union.

Daniel Died 30 October 1953 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. Maude died 23 January 1974 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Jefferson County, Alabama.
