Prattie Kitten Cantrell was born 28 February 1891 in Marshall County, Alabama. She was the daughter of William Harrison Cantrell and Joanna Drucilla Waldrip Cantrell. She grew up in Marshall and Cullman County, Alabama.

Prattie married John Riley Perkins 22 November 1907 Marshall County, Alabama When she was 16 years of age. They were the parents of four sons; R E Perkins, Edward Oliver Perkins, Gurley Bolden Perkins, and John Alvie Perkins.

John Perkins died 14 November 1941. At age 60, Prattie married James Uriah Couch 18 June 1951 in Cullman County, Alabama. He died in 1964 and is buried with his first wife in Flint Creek Cemetery, Cullman County, Alabama. Prattie died 18 April 1967 and is buried by her first husband, John in Rocky Mount Cemetery, Marshall County, Alabama.
