In November 1842, he married Anna Catherine Link. They moved across the Catawba River to Caldwell County, first making their home in a log cabin in the town of Lenoir. Later they moved out to Greasy Creek. Leander Houck helped build the first buildings in Lenoir. He was also a farmer, and helped one of his sons run a grist mill. Many of his descendants still populate Caldwell and surrounding counties.
Leander's grave was moved from his yard at Greasy Creek to the cemetery in Rutherford College. His son Kelley wrote a letter to his youngest brother to explain why the grave had to be moved: "We had to remove our father's remains. The hiway (sic) people cut the bank at the old cemetery near the Old Home and father's grave was almost caved off. Mother died at Rutherford College and requested to be buried there so we had Father's remains moved and placed by Mother's side over at the college."
