The Peoria Journal Star, Feb. 25, 1997:

Mary O. Smith, 84, of 618 SW Fifth Avenue, died at 10:50 AM, Monday, February 24, 1997, at her home. Born May 28, 1912, in Kentucky to James A. and Georgianna Mattingly Mattingly, she married Thomas W. Smith on December 29, 1936, in St. Mary's, Kentucky. He died October 9, 1976. Two infant sons, three brothers, one sister and one great-grandson also preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, James of Kenawee, David M. of Greenville, Pa., and Thomas W. of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Emanuel Mattingly of Lebanon, Kentucky, and Sim Mattingly of Ocala, Florida; five sisters, Frances Stubbs and Rose Blair, both of Louisville, Ky., Nettie Fields of Fern Creek, Ky., Ann Janes of Springfield, Ky., and Laura Jean Nalley of St. Francis, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Galva and its Altar and Rosary Society. Mass will be at 10 AM., Thursday at her church. The Rev. Bruce Lopez will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday at Rux Funeral Home in Galva, with recitation of the rosary at 6 PM. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee.
