Jane was nine when she immigrated to the United States with her parents John Robertson MacDuff, Ellen Hancock MacDuff and sister, Jane. The ship General McClellan left Liverpool, England on May 21, 1864, with 802 L.D.S. saints, and arrived in New York, New York on June 23, 1864.

"MRS. JANE R. MACDUFF BUTLER ~ At the family home, 237 Third East street, Mrs. Jane Rowan MacDuff Butler, 73, wife of William L. Butler, a native of Devonshire, England, but a resident of Utah for 64 years, died Saturday.

Surviving are her husband and the following sons and daughters: John M. Butler, Catherine B. Butler, Thomas E. Butler, Mrs. L.V. Guynn, Mrs. T.L. Parker, Ralph M. Butler, Mrs. J.E. Openshaw and Joseph Butler, all of Salt Lake, and William B. Butler, Oakland, Cal. Nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive."

Cause of death: Cerebral Hemorrhage, Arterio Sclerosis
Buried: Wednesday, October 31, 1928
