Former Athensville resident Russell Barnard, 92, of Chatham, died Friday evening, Jan. 30, 1987, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born in Greene County Feb. 9, 1894, the son of the late William and Lola (Lindsey) Barnard, and married Catherine McGregor July 28, 1920, in Lewistown, Montana. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1983.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Clinton (Laura) Reynolds and Mrs. Lola Vlahon of Chatham, and Mrs. Robert (Thurla) Richards of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Dolly Ortleb and Sylvia McCauley of Jerseyville, Pansy Duncan of Chicago, Gladys Gresham of California and Louise Blair of Carlinville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Coover, three brothers, four sisters, and one grandchild.

Mr. Barnard was a retired electrician, a veteran of World War I, a member of the Athensville Baptist Church and the Murrayville American Legion.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse with the Rev. Vale Walkington officiating. Gladys Huff was organist. Casketbearers were Larry Reynolds, Steven Reynolds, Rick Richards, Bob Richards, Todd Camden and Byron Hibbs. Burial was in Richwoods Cemetery seven and a half miles East of Roodhouse.
