Joshua Kirk (J.K.) Barnard, 90, of rural Athensville died Saturday afternoon at the Jerseryville Hospital. He was a member of the Athensville Baptist Church.
Mr. Barnard was born in Greene County, May 9 1890, the son of William J. and Lora Lindsey Barnard. He first married Luvenia Wood in 1912 and she preceded in death in 1967. He then married Edith Patterson in 1968 and she resides at the Jerseyville Care Center. Also surviving are four sons, Stanley of Suisun City, Calif., Lloyd of Brighton; Gerald of Sedalia, Mo.; and Bob of Centralia; two daughters, Cleta Dunn of Jerseyville and Wilma Chappee of Carrollton; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Stepchildren Harold Patterton of Modesto; Marilyn Winters of Auburn and Patsy Johnson of Riverton survive along with a brother, Russell of Murrayville, and six sisters, Louisa Blair of Carlinville; Golden Chapman of Cuba; Dolla Ortleb of Jerseyville; Pandora Duncan of Rockbride; Gladys Gresham of San Diego, Calif.; and Sylvia McCauley of Jerseyville. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Interment will be in Athensville Cemetery.
