He was born April 5, 1926 in Alton, a son of Russell and Catherine McGregor Barnard, both of whom survive.
He was married September 23, 1948 in Athensville to Imogene Stone, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Carol) Buker, and a son, Tom Barnard, both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Reynolds and Mrs. Lola Vlahon, both of Chatham and Mrs. Thurla Richards of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by a son.
He was a veteran of W.W. II and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Jacksonville. He was a truck driver for Anderson Clayton Co for 20 years. He was a salesman for United National Insurance.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, where the body will lie in state for two hours before the funeral. Burial will be in Athensville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home, Roodhouse.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, with burial in Athensville Cemetery. Mackey-Daws Funeral Home, Roodhouse, is in charge of arrangements.
