Ole Anderson Berg was born in 1858 in Hegra/Stjordal/Norway. He was the first child of Anders Jensen Stageberg (changed to Berg in America) and Anna Olsen. Ole was the first of his immediate family to come to America. He came over in 1874 when he was just 16 years old, first settling in Black River Falls, WI. When the rest of his family came in 1875 and 76, they settled in Seely Township/Faribault Cty/MN. Ole would marry Johanna in 1883 in Faribault Cty/MN.
Ole and Johanna spent the early years in Evansville/Douglas Cty/MN. They had two children, Clara and Hilma. Johanna died in 1886, per the Recorder's records in Evansville, when Hilma was 4 months old. With little choice, the girls each were taken in by other area families. Ole moved up to Red Lake Falls, MN. Hilma eventually went out to California, married three times, but didn't have any children (at least none I have found). Hilma died in California. On her death record, Ole is not listed as her father, instead the man that raised her is (Martin Nelson), but Johanna is listed as her mother.
Clara stayed around Red Lake Falls, married and had two sons, Donald and Robert. Robert had 1 daughter, but she has not had children. Donald had 2 sons, but neither have had children. As well as the historical societies, Donald's wife, Elizabeth provided descendant information as well as photos.
* My connection: Ole was my great grandfather, Gunder Berg's, brother. Vicky
