Michael was born 'Mikkel Stageberg' to Anders Jensen Stageberg(Andrew J. Berg) and his wife Anna in Seely Township/Faribault County/MN. He was the last child of 7 children and the only one to be born in America. He was raised in Bricelyn, MN and moved to Pettibone, N.D. between 1905-1908. He married Margaret Kienolt on Oct. 12, 1908 in Steele, N.D. They were not able to have children and adopted a little girl whom they named Mary Helen Berg- born Feb.15, 1919 in N.D. Margaret Berg died at 48 years old following an operation.
