Edwin was the tenth son of Van and Mae Massey, named after a good friend of the family, Teddy Longhurst. Because of his large family, there was always plenty of work to do and it took precedence over all else, including school. The strenuous work gave Edwin a set of muscles few men could compete with. He has his father's inquiring mind and studious manner. Seldom will you find him without his scriptures nearby, which he read whenever a moment's break came his way.
They have one son, Adam and Edwin has three other children by previous marriages. Edwin was self-employed, in business with his brother and nephew. They owned the Massey Fencing Business, which had contracted work all over the six states. For some time Edwin also had a contract to haul phosphate from Vernal to Wyoming. A great deal of their work has changed from fencinq to earth work for the government.
Edwin was very much a family man. He enjoyed trap shooting with his son Adam, who has won many national honors in the sport. He also enjoys the mountains and hunting. He was a good carpenter, having built, or helped to build, several homes for family members. He belongs to the Elks and has been the Director of the Vernal Rod and Gun Club.
