Our beloved wife and Mother, Geneva F. Torrey, 82, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on August 23, 2009, at Cortland Memorial Hospital, N.Y.

Geneva was born in New Berlin, NY on July 26,1927, a daughter of Elden and Martha (Prosser) Gage. Geneva was one of 10 children. Her parents as well as four of her siblings, Norma Williams, Donald Gage, Elden Gage and Alan Gage, predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Bertha Deuel and her father-in-law, Avery Torrey. She had been employed at many different jobs throughout her life, most of them in the field of nursing. She attended New Berlin School and proudly graduated from high school with her GED in her early 50's.

In 1945 she married Avery Z. Torrey who survives her. Together they had 6 children. Avery & Geneva would have celebrated 64 years of marriage together this October 29th. Geneva was a lifetime member of the Edwin Wilbur Jr. American Legion Auxiliary in McDonough, NY. She was a great cook who always had a house full of family and friends to enjoy her wonderful meals.

Geneva is survived by her husband Avery of Cincinnatus; 2 sons; 3 daughters; daughters-in-law; sons-in-law; and an honorary son; 10 grandchildren. Her son eldest Garry predeceased her in January 2009. Geneva is survived by five siblings and their spouses; her sister-in-law Isabelle Gage, Norwich, NY, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be at Westview Cemetery in German at a later date and time. Those wishing to remember Geneva with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Westview Cemetery Association, c/o Cindy Nogva, 196 County Route 5, McDonough, NY 13801 or a charity of one's choice.

I personally wrote the obituary for my Mother (her youngest daughter). There was a memorial service for my Mom at her late home. It was one of many funerals that were held at her home over the years.
