William L. Seela married Mary Elizabeth Neal on April 17, 1856 in Jasper County, Missouri. She lived but eleven months, leaving one child, Sarah. William married Martha Jane (Biba) Mason on April 11, 1859 in Jasper County, Missouri. He enlisted in Company C, Fifteenth Regiment, Kansas Cavalry Volunteers, U. S. Army at Poole (probably Paola), Kansas on August 8, 1863. He served in Kansas and Missouri, was at the battles of Lexington, Westport, Mine Run, Moniteau, and Newtonia, and was discharged October 19, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Land records show that in 1876 they owned 40 acres northeast of Carthage, Missouri. They later moved to Englevale, Crawford County, Kansas. Martha Jane died December 6, 1894 and is buried in Englevale Cemetery, Englevale, Crawford County, Kansas. William died at the Pacific Branch National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California and is buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, California. Sawtelle is a small area within the city of Los Angeles. The National Home was near the cemetery.
