Mrs. Celia A. Diskey, 87, 3558 S. Boots St., died at 8:10 p.m. Friday at her home. She had been in failing health for several years.
A native of Huntington, Mrs. Diskey had lived in Marion most of her life. She was the widow of the late John Diskey, and was a member of the College Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Surviving are five sons, John, Walter, Edward, Ralph & Arthur, all of Marion; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Rose) Wesco, Jonesboro, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Oswalt and Mrs. Joseph (Iva) Smithhart, both of Marion; 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Shawley Memorial Chapel, 2901 S. Washington Street.
She went by Celia A. Diskey, but her full name was Cecelia Auguste Marie (Wagner) Diskey.
25 October 2022 -- written by a granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Smithhart Southerland, Grandma Diskey has been on my mind, Cecelia Auguste Marie Wagner Diskey, would have been 139 today, born 1883, lost her mother at 9 years old in 1892, left her with just a father and a brother, the brother, John Wagner married Cora Diskey in 1898, that's how she met Grandpa, John Diskey, who she married in 1899 at age 16, she had 11 children over the next 25 years, 1900 - 1925, she lost her husband in 1948, she worked like a dog all her life, Grandma was always in the kitchen working, she had a series of strokes that paralyzed one side of her body, making her an invalid the last 5-6 years of her life, JoAnn poor soul, bore the brunt of caring for her, Grandma had big sparkling brown eyes, always smiled at you, loved her very much, she died on 1 January 1971 at 87 years of age.
