Page News & Courier, Thursday 11 Jan 1968 John Arthur Comer, 78, a retired stationary fireman of the Norfolk and Western Railroad Company died Thursday evening at a Staunton hospital. Born in Shenandoah June 27, 1889, he was the son of the late John H. and Lucy Lee McAlister Comer. He was a faithful and active member of the Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1964. He is survived by a foster son, Harry J. Comer, of Shenandoah; four foster grandchildren; two foster great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Smith and Miss Pearl Comer, both of Shenandoah; seven half-sisters, Miss Nellie Comer, Mrs. Ruth Kite, Mrs. Gladys Ferrell and Mrs. Vista Manuel, all of Shenandoah; Mrs. Thelma Herring and Mrs. Sylvia Cave, both of Elkton, and Mrs. Hattie Fadely, of Mt. Jackson, and three half-brothers, Floyd Comer, of Ridgeley, W.Va.; Kemper Comer, of Elkins, W.Va., and Burtis Comer, of Shenandoah. A funeral service was conducted from the Chapel of the Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday with his pastor, the Rev. Linwood M. Ball, officiating… Burial took place in the Methodist Cemetery.
