Sylvia Edna Cave, 94, of Elkton, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014.

Sylvia E. Cave, 94, of Elkton, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.

She was born December 27, 1919 in Shenandoah, VA and was the daughter of the late John H. and Rebecca Baugher Comer.

Sylvia graduated from Shenandoah High School and was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Church in Comertown, and attended the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton most of her life. Sylvia and her husband owned & operated Sylvia’s Quick Lunch in Orange, VA for seven years and was an excellent cook and known for her cole slaw. She worked at the old Sleepwear Inc. for a number of years, and as custodian at JMU, and retired from Spotswood High School. Sylvia was a loving wife, devoted mother and a caregiver to several of her grandsons and great-grandsons from the time they were infants until they graduated from high school, and one currently in the 10th grade, she loved and spoiled them. She loved her children and their families, and the family loved and respected her. Sylvia was the Family Matriarch and witness of 4 generations after her. She read her Bible religiously and loved her word find books.

In 1936 she married, Ronda F. Cave of Elkton who preceded her in death on November 24, 1974. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shelby Jean, and a son, Ronda F. Jr.

She is survived by daughters, Maxine and husband, Fred Stanley of Katy, Texas, Sheila and husband, Johnnie Cave of Shenandoah, VA; a sister, Vista and husband, Arthur Manuel of Shenandoah, VA; 7 grandsons; 4 granddaughters; 10 great-grandsons and 11 great-granddaughters; 3 great-great granddaughters; 7 great-great grandsons.

Sylvia wanted to say “Thank You” to three of her most cherished friends; Dale and Kay Shifflett, and Molly Good.

The Revs. David Vaughan and Wayne Taylor will conduct the funeral service 2pm Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. Interment will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8pm at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the home of her daughter, Shelia at anytime.
