Helen Lucille Sims, 97, passed away on January 29, 2024, at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. A visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband Leland in Chariton Cemetery at a later date.

Helen was born on April 28, 1926, to Robert and Fern (Rohrer) Elliott. She attended school in Williamson, Iowa. On October 7, 1944, Helen married Leland Sims during his two weeks of leave during World War II. In her younger days, Helen enjoyed going out dancing and enjoying music with Leland. She was also an avid bowler. Helen worked for Chariton High School until her retirement. In her later years, tending to her garden and playing cards with her family and friends were her favorite things to do. Helen cherished her time spent with those she loved.

Helen is survived by her children, Vicky (Chris) Kish and Lonnie (Ruth) Sims; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly (Clyde) Buckalew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; daughter, Teresa Fox; siblings: Ethel, Thelma, Daisy, Mary Ann, Beulah, Raymond, Bob, and Myrtle; and a great-great grandchild, Cassidy Dunsmoor.
