He was born March 11, 1895 at Mountain View, Missouri, the son of Albert Wesley and Eudocia Stokes. In 1912 he came to Oklahoma with his parents and settled in the Glencoe area. He had lived on the family farm until he moved to Rosewood on March 9, 1976.
He and his wife, the former Ilah Miller, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1974. They had married in 1914, in Glencoe. One son, Albert Wesley preceeded him in death. Surviving is his wife; four sons; Sam, Lester, Estie of the Glencoe home, and Verlin Stokes; two daughters, Mrs. Amos (Clarice) Simmons and Mrs. Wallace (Ruth) MeGee. Also eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Bob Stokes of Glencoe.
