At an early age, her family moved to Newport where she attended school, married, had three children, and lived most of her life. Hazel worked at the former International Shoe Company in Newport, fabricating Zodiac boots and was proud to have helped make sandals for the crew on submarines. She loved her flower gardens, and along with her husband, working in their vegetable gardens, having yard sales, and traveling across country visiting relatives on the West Coast, and touring national parks, her favorites being the Redwoods and Grand Canyon. She enjoyed playing cribbage, watching the deer, wild turkeys and birds in her back yard and absolutely loved the ocean.
Survivors include daughters Annette Burgess of Canterbury, Emilie Phelps of Hampton, son, James Petrin of Salem, OR; grandchildren Karen Kelso & husband David of Canterbury, Robert Morrill & wife Kathleen of Gilmanton, Braden Larmon & wife Kara of Newburyport, MA and Andrea Petrin of Salem OR.; great grandchildren Tyson Morrill & fiance Hayley Beyer, Taylor Morrill, Oliver & Miles Larmon, Asia, Shaya, & Lhaya Powers & Jeremiah Turner, a sister, Dolores Halverson of Westford, MA and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, George Petrin, and eleven siblings including two brothers killed in action in World War II. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at a later date at the family's convenience.
