July 7, 1938

Nancy Ellen Duckworth, daughter of Matthew and Sarah Shore, was born March 21, 1855, in the state of Illinois, and passed away July 4, 1938, at her home in Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 17 days.

On January 5, 1879, she was united in marriage to Lewis M. Duckworth in Lucas county, who survives her. To this union eight children were born, Mrs. Lettie R. Maddy, of Fonda, Iowa; Mrs. Sadie E. McDonald, Mrs. Grace A. Whittlesey, Emery A., George A., Walter M., all of Russell, Iowa: Roy, of Farmersville, New York: and Selvia D., who died at the age of three years.

Most of her life was spent on a farm in Lucas county with the exception of a few years lived in Illinois. When but a young girl she united with the Zion church near Russell.

She had a kind and cheerful word for everyone and was a blessing to those who knew her. She leaves behind her an example of fortitude and courage in the face of trials that will ever be remembered by the loved ones she leaves behind.

Besides the immediate family, she leaves to mourn their loss two brothers, Joe Shore, of Blunt, South Dakota, and Charley Shore, of near Russell; forty-three grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, also a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Beardsley funeral home and burial was in the Zion cemetery.
