Uncle HENDRICK was the one I call my second Dad as I spent so much time at his home. I was a year older then his only daughter, Lila. They lived two farms over from us and we were at home in each other's homes. His three sons and Lila were like members of our own family. Lila's birthday was January 7 so we often celebrated our day together when we were small. After we moved to Aylmer Dad bought a 1927 Model T Ford. I think Dad really missed the farm, so the Ford made many trips up the Klock Road to Uncle Hendrick's. We used to say that if you started the car and got on the road it would go up there by itself. I spent a lot of my summer holidays and weekends there. Lila of course, had to help Aunt Lucy a lot in the house as well as "pitching in" with the haying, potato picking , carrot and turnip pulling and any other outdoor work as needed. At night after supper dishes were done we would go into the parlour and I would play the organ and we'd sing for hours...(much more)
