Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.


Catherine "Cathy" Agnes Meech was born February 23, 1925 in Leaf River Township, Minnesota to Peter and Gertrude (Schmitz) Gaul. Peter was born in Luxembourg and had come to Wadena county with his parents and two small sons following the death of his first wife Katharina Schartz. Cathy was the 7th child born to Peter and Gertrude who died from Pneumonia following the birth of her tenth child when Cathy was only 8 years old.


Cathy was raised by her older sister Theresa and graduated from Verndale High School. She attended St Cloud Teachers College and taught in rural schools at Huntersville and Nimrod Minnesota. She was engaged to be married to Eugene Beckner who was killed in France during World War II.


Following the war, Cathy married Vernon Loyal Meech on October 5, 1946 at Saint Fredericks Catholic Church in Verndale. The couple raised five children.


Cathy held a number of jobs including Seifo Toys, West Publishing, and the United States Postal Service. Cathy and Vern retired in February of 1985. Vernon passed away on January 5, 2006.


Cathy suffered a heart attack in 2002 followed by open heart surgery. She suffered a paralyzing stroke in March of 2015 leaving her wheelchair bound and unable to feed herself or speak. She spent the remainder of her life at Golden Living Center in Stillwater. She died surrounded by her loving children.


Cathy is survived by her children Loyal (Glenda) Meech, Kathleen Meech, Glenn Meech, Jacqueline Meech, and Michelle Meech; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.


Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandchild, Katherine Jean Triemert, and a great grandson, Derick Triemert; two half-brothers Nicholas and Paul Gaul, brothers Peter and Andrew Gaul, and 7 sisters, Rosa Payne, Theresa Gaul, Lucille Painter, Helen Hoffman, Mary Knisley, Margaret Jordan Hoffman, and Susan Muse.
