In 1911, Sallie applied for a homestead. Her application was approved and signed by President William Taft.
Sallie and Guy built a sod house on this homestead and lived there for some time before moving to the nearby town of Mott.
During the years spent in North Dakota, the family endured many hardships. In 1917, Guy left the family to join the army, Esther was advised to move to Colorado for her health, so she departed with her family. Irene died of heart complications in 1918. Sallie took Erma to Cheyenne due to ill health where Erma died in 1922.
He was offered a job in Salina where the family joined him in 1923. His mother died in 1924. Guy partnered with Fred Bell to operate the Lemon-Bell Tire Company. He later served as Sheriff Bell's Deputy and later Under-Sheriff in Saline County.
Guy was elected Saline County Sheriff in 1952 upon the death of Sheriff Fred Bell. He served throughout the decade until his retirement. He was a WWI veteran of the US Army Signal Corp and served in France with his cousin Roy Lemon. Guy became a 32nd-degreed Mason in 1925. He married Ella Mae Hesher in November 1928. They were the parents of three children: Darrell R.Lemon, Mary Lou Lemon Weddle and Linda Mae Lemon Simpson. They had 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is buried with his wife Ella Mae and brother Loren. His business partner, in the Lemon-Bell Tire Co. [Fred Bell] is also buried in Roselawn.
