Lexia A. Starnes, called "Lexie," was the eldest daughter of Emsley Valentine Starnes (1859-1920) and his wife Nancy Jane Dulin (1863-1918), of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Her paternal grandparents were Dulin Stearns (c. 1836-1863) and his wife Rusha Elizabeth King (1837-1894), and her maternal grandparents were Milton Dulin (c. 1834-1863) and his wife Sophia Hannah Weddington (1831-?). Both grandfathers were Confederate soldiers, killed in the War.

While the tombstone says she was born in 1880, I believe she was actually born in 1881 (per the 1900 census, and her parents weren't married until 1880.) Lexie married Thomas J. Jones (1873-1938) around 1902, and Jesse C. Culpepper (1869-1950) around 1939/40. I do not believe she had any children. She died in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.

Many thanks to Find A Grave contributor Christine Thacker who created this memorial, and then kindly transferred it to me, a cousin. And thanks to the folks at the "Culpepper Connections" web site where I found her obituary.
