Roscoe Columbus Starnes was a son of Emsley Valentine Stearns/Starnes (1859-1920) and Nancy Jane Dulin (1862-1918). His paternal grandparents were Dulin Stearns (c.1836-1863) and Rusha Elizabeth King (1837-1894, later Mrs. A. Jackson Edwards) of Union Co., NC. His father was brother to my great grandfather, Dulin Benson Stearns (1863-1962), see his entry here at Elmwood for more information on the family.

I am uncertain of R. C. Starnes birth date. I've given the one listed on his death certificate, but his WW I Registration card states he was born in 1888, as does the 1900 census. The family was living in York Co., SC in 1900, and in Charlotte in 1910 and 1920, but Roscoe wasn't with them in Charlotte. His death certificate states that he was living in Charlotte at the time of his death, a retired machinist, who was divorced. He died in the Huntersville Hospital of cancer. The informant on the death certificate was his sister, Ida L. (Mrs. Sidney I.) Quinn of Elgin, SC. I do not know if he had children.
