Gertrude Hartog Jacobs

Gertrude Jacobs, 95, of Orange City died Wednesday April 9, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Dover Avenue Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Orange City, The Rev. Jeffrey Keady and the Rev. John Hartog II will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Mrs. Jacobs was born March 19, 1913, on a farm northeast of Orange City, the daughter of Jacobus and Grietje (Bonnes) Hofland. She was raised on that farm find attended the Holland Township No. 2 country school.

On April 12, 1933, she married John Hartog I in her parents' home. They made their home at Seney and were members of the Carnes Christian Reformed Church. He died December 11, 1942, in Le Mars.

She then moved into Orange City, where on January 1, 1964, she married John Jacobs. He died February of 1973 in Orange City.

In December of 2007, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility.

She was a member of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church and a prayer group which met in her home for many years. She placed her trust in Jesus many years ago, and was confident that her salvation was a free gift of His grace. She was a faithful prayer warrior.

She was a homemaker and mother for 75 years. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She collected plates, each of which held a special meaning to her.

Survivors include her six children, Marie Frances and her husband Bill Korver of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Geraldine and her husband Vernon Kiel of Alton, John Hartog II and his wife
Martha of Ankeny, Marjorie and her husband Robert Vander Aarde of Great Falls, Montana, Janice Veldhuis of Sheldon and Paul Hartog and his wife Velma of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsina (Henry) Bos of Hartley; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Marj Hofland of Orange City; four sisters-in-law, Cynthia (Cornelius) Hofland, Etta (James) Hofland, Grace (Cornie) Hartog and Wilhelmina Garret) Hartog; and special neighbors, Donna and George Kleinhesselink.

She was also preceded in death by a-son-in-law, Henry Veldhuis; a granddaughter; a grandson-in-law; a great-granddaughter; and three brothers and three sisters, John Hofland, Angeline Horstman, Katherine Schuiteman, Cornelius Hofland, Henrieta Mars and James Hofland.

Memorials will be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
