Mr. Joe Cornelius Hofland passed away Saturday , July 17, at his home after a two and a half year illness of scleriosis.
Mr. Hofland was born May 6, 1911 at a farm north of Orange City, and was married to Cynthia Mars 30 years ago, who survives him.
Other survivors are his six children: James of California; Greta (Mrs. Adrian Kruid) of Ireton; Lee of Hartley, la., Linda, Joe and Betty at home; five grandchildren; also his mother, Mrs. James Hofland of Orange City, three brothers, John of Sanborn, James and Elmer of Orange City; five sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Horstman of Hull, Mrs. Art Schuiteman of Sioux Center, Mrs. Henry Bos of Melvin, Mrs. John Jacobs and Mrs. Jake Mars of Orange City.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 20, at the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. B. Vanden Brink and student pastor John De Pater officiating.
Special music "Someday the Silver Cord Will Break," was provided by Mrs. Alfred Bomgaars, Mrs. Alfred Woudstra, Hubert Schuller and Ivan Visser accompanied by Janice
Bruxvoort. Pallbearers were Lester Mars, Lige Mars, Henry J, Pennings, Allen Kramer, James Hofland and Marion Horstman.
Burial was made in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.
