Mrs. Henrietta E. Mars, age 78, of Orange City, passed away Monday, January 2, at her residence.
The funeral service was held Thursday, January 5, at 10:30 a.m; at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Ralph Pontier officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
Henrietta was born February 14, 1916, at Orange City, the daughter of Jacobus and Gertrude (Bonnes) Hofland. She was raised at Orange City.
On May 2, 1934, she married Jacob Mars at Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County until 1954, when they moved to Orange City.
Mrs. Mars was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and in earlier years had been involved in the Monica Society.
Survivors include her husband, 'Jake'; four daughters and their husbands, Gertrude and Mar on Vande Brake, of Orange City; June and Clarence De Vos, of Tyler, Texas; Vel and Fred Falkena, of Hospers; and Darlene and Stanley Ekdom, of Urbandale; five sons, Gary and his wife Hendrene, of Hull; Donald, and his wife, Audrey, of Hastings, Nebraska; Jerry, and his wife, Sandie, of Orange City; Robert, and his wife, Sue, of Sioux Center; and Randy, of Alton; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Jeanette and Harold Jager, of Hudson, South Dakota; 37 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Hofland, of Sanborn; and James and Elmer Hofland, both of Orange City; and four sisters, Angeline Horstman, of Rock Valley; Katherine Schuiteman, of Sioux Center; Gertrude Jacobs, of Orange City; and Elsina, both of Melvin.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lige; an infant daughter, Shirley; a daughter-in-law, Debra; and a brother, Joe C. Hofland.
