She was a native of the Azores Islands. Mrs. Martin came to the United States and Humboldt County in 1917, and made her home in Elk River. In 1918 she moved to Ferndale, where she lived until moving to Fortuna in 1942.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church of Fortuna, Legion of Mary, St. Anthony Lodge of Ferndale, the S.P.R.S.I of Ferndale, and the U.P.P.E.C. of Ferndale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin Martin, in 1959, and her daughter, Ruby Rasella, in 1977. She is survived by her children, Mary Oliveira of Fortuna; Joaquin Martin of Ferndale, Olivia Smith of Lone Pine, Aurora Ingersoll of Fortuna, and Evelyn Chism of Fortuna; a brother and two sisters; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter.
Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:30 P.M. at Goble's Chapel, Fortuna.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at S. Joseph's Catholic Church, Fortuna, Saturday at 10 A.M. Rev. Father Thomas Devereaux will be the celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, Eureka.
Casketbearers will be Jerry Ingersoll, Allan Baird, Dennis Chism , Chris Chism, Manuel Saude and Russell Parsells.
Friends may call at the chapel for visitation today from noon to 5 P.M. and 6:30 to 8 P.M.
