JOAQUIN S. MARTIN, 62-year old Fortuna resident, died Sunday morning at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born March 13, 1897, in the Azores. Martin came to Humboldt county in 1917 and had resided in Fortuna since 1942. He had been employed at the Pacific Lumber Company since 1940. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Fortuna, S.E. S. Lodge of Rio Dell and A.P.P.E.B. Lodge of Ferndale.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary S. Martin, son, Joaquin Martin Jr., Ferndale, daughters, Mrs. Mary Oliveira, Fortuna; Mrs. Olivia Baird, Rohnerville; Mrs. Evelyn Chism, Rohnerville; Mrs. Aurora Ingersoll, Scotia; Mrs. Ruby Saude, Rio Dell; sisters, Mrs. Angelina Cardoza, Fortuna; Mrs. Gertrude Medina, Orland; brother, John Martin, Ferndale; 16 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 8:30 P.M. in the chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary. Friends will assemble at the mortuary Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. and proceed to St. Joseph's Church for requiem mass at 10 A.M. with Father T.V. Burke, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Eureka.
