Victor Colonel was the 13th child of James Blake Sr. His mother was Martha nee' Armstron-McLaughlin-Lachay.
Victor (who preferred being called "Blake") was born in Mars, Albemarle Township on the Peninsula of North Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

Before Victor Colonel Blake's birth, his mother Martha Armstrong-McLaughin-Lachay-Blake was a twice widowed woman who had bore 8 children to her first husband before his death. She had only been married to the Widow Blake Sr. less than two (2)years She had given him a new daughter was with child again. The baby boy she carried would be her 10 child. Imagine the shock when her dead 1st husband, Robert McLaughlin, returned from the war. Notifications of his death in action were wrong, she was still Mrs. Robert McLaughlin. He was very much alive and she was legally Mrs. Robert Laughlin, not the twice widowed Mrs. Lachay that married James Blake Sr.

Victor was born in Mar, near the Blake farm. James Blake Sr. had his first 11 children to think of and he decided to move. His prior father-in-law (grandfather to his youngest 4 children had left Canada to live in the San Juan Island, off the coast of Washington State and territory of the United States). James Sr. and his brother George left Canada 6 months later in June, 1883, after Victor Colonel was registered as his son with Mrs. McLaughlin. By 1887 he had a huge homestead in the USA where many of his children followed him to live on Lopez Island, San Juan, Washington.

Martha remained in Canada. 10 years later a census reported her with some of her older Laughlin son's and the two young Blake children, Lillis & Victor, living in Sarnia, Lambton County, Ontario, Canada.

Victor was raised in Sarnia but probably never saw his father again. Victor had a total of 19 half-siblings and one sister. His mother was living under the name of Martha Blake

His sister, Lillis Blake born Nov 7 1881 was older than Victor but she died in her early 20's on her honeymoon in a hotel fire in Detroit, Michigan USA.

Victor married twice but spent his life with his 2nd wife Isabella Porter who was born on Jan 17, 1893 in Petrolia area of Enniskillen Twp. or Plympton Township, in Lambton County, Ontario, Canada. His wife, Isabel was a homemaker, school teacher, and nurse. Victor was a grocery salesman and then he worked as an Imperial Oil, Sales Representative often a traveler for his employment.

He and Isabel married on Aug 15, 1913 in Saskatoon, Sask. where Victor's first son was born, Byron Porter Blake in 1915.

Victor signed up for overseas service in the Canadian Army during WWI after his son's birth. He was injured and sent to the King George Hospital in London, England UK. The injury to his arm & leg and was sent home. Victor was able to return to his old company and he and Isabel lived in the Flanagan Hotel, 21st St., Saskatoon. Later moving to small home in the Village of Dodsland, Sask. where Victor's 2nd son, Roy Grenville Blake was born in 1920.

Later Victor and his family moved to British Columbia and later a home in Vancouver BC. WWII started and his sons joined the Canadian Armed Forces. Both sons married while in Vancouver BC.

During Victor's retirement age illness of his wife's sister brought he and Isabel to Los Angeles, California in about 1950. By 1954 they decided to stay in the USA and in Vista, San Diego, California.
