Isabella Porter was born in the rural area around Petrolia of Enniskillen Twp. (some say Sarnia, Plympton Twp), Lambton County, Ontario Canada.
Her parents were Charles Edward Porter (Mar 8/12 of 1850 to Dec 27/28th of 1896. They were married Feb 15, 1853 in Weston, County of York, Ontario Canada.
Her Paternal great grandparents were Joseph Porter and Alice Thompson both born in Yorkshire, England, UK, Married Nov 22 1796 Her Paternal grandparents were John Porter and Anna Mercer; also born in Yorkshire, immigrating to Ontario Canada in 1931.
Her father had a nice brick farmhouse and 11 oil wells on his property before he died of a farm injury at age 47 two or three days after Christmas in 1896, leaving Isabella his youngest just before she was 4 years of age.

Isabella, "Bella" by her family, had 8 older brothers and sisters. Although her father left oil wells and farm(s) that could be rented, it was not an easy life for Isabella. Her mother remarried an American by the name of Webster Headley; her step-father moved her mother, Mary Elizabeth nee' Suttleworth-Porter and 3 of the younger siblings to Fresno California, USA.
The step-father was not good for the children. The oldest of the 4 children had her Principal at school find her a place to work for room & board so she could finish school. Within in a year or so, Isabel's mother had a cottage built on the other side of Fresno, away from where she lived with her 2nd husband, just for the 4 children to live in by themselves. Rose Ellen Porter was the oldest and she became the housekeeper. Charles Edwin Porter was the next in age and he got a paper route. Harriet Christiena "Hattie" Porter and Isabella "Isabel" were the youngest and they helped with setting up breakfast each day before all the children went off to school. This was their live as the children worked towards grade school, middle school and finished high school. Each as they became old enough would find positions where they worked for room & board in the homes of families who needed housekeep, child care, chores in the home; with the goal that the children would stay in school (3 went onto to college and Normal school).

Isabella worked her way through high school living as a housekeeping/child care helper in Fresno, CA, Portland OR, & San Diego, CA. Before moving back to Saskatchewan, Canada to help her sister, she had received her teacher's certificate.

On her train trip to her sister's home, she met Victor Colonel Blake.

Isabel had gotten her teaching degree right after graduation in Fresno, California. She worked as a teacher off and on during her marriage but in Vancouver BC she starting working as a nurse. This training helped her care for her sister until she died.
By now Isabel & Blake loved the weather in California and purchased land, sold their home in Vancouver BC and eventually retired in a home them build at 454 Hill Drive, Vista, San Diego County, California USA.
