John Blake was the 2nd child born to Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Shannon wife of James Blake Sr. His father James was born in Armagh, Ulster Province, Northern Ireland and Immigraged with his parents at age 4 to Canada, 1830. His mother was also from Armagh and immigrated with her parents to Canada in 1844. John was born Alton, Caledon Township, Peel County, Ontario Province, Canada on January 22, 1855. He had an older sister Elizabeth Ann Blake. His parents were married about 1851 in Ontario Canada.

John's family ending up consisting 7 children when his mother died in 1868 at age 39, 2 months, 7 days. She left behind Elizabeth Ann Blake; John Blake age 13; Martha Blake; James Blake Jr.; Thomas George Blake; Solomon Valentine Blake; and Margaret Jane "Maggie" Blake age 2.

His father waited two years before he married and wife, Hannah Lee on May 10, 1970 whom family came from County Cork, Southern Ireland. John was now about 15 years of age. He would become close to Hannah during her short marriage to his father since she also died at age 38 years 10 months and 5 days of age after the birth of his 4th half sibling, Fredrick Lee Blake. During her married to his father (9 years) Hannah added to his father's children & John's sibling: Thomasena "Sena" Blake in July 5, 1871; Henrietta "Etta" Blake May 11, 1873; Mary Hannah Blake Apr 21, 1876 and Fredrick Lee Blake on Sept 28, 1879. Hannah died 24 hours after his birth and was buried in Colpoy's Bay Edgehill Cemetery in Wiarton, Albemarle Twp., North Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

John Blake married 3 months after Hannah died to Elizabeth Ann "Annie" Gawley who was born in Ontario and living with her family in Albemarle Township as was the James Blake family.. now 11 children in number. John and Annie were married in Wiarton and lived there near both their parents. Annie's parents were Richasrd Gawley (1835-1921) and Elizabeth Watson McMasters 1836-1908.

John and Annie had their first child, Elizabeth Ann Blake on Mar 7, 1880 in North Bruce, Albemarle Twp., Ontario, Canada. She died Aug 18, 1882 at 2 yrs., 5 mo, 11 days of age. Their 2nd child was Richard James Blake b: Jun 7, 1881 and died Dec 12, 1882 age 1 yr. 6 mos and 5 days. The too infants were place in Hannah Lee's grave in Edgehill Cemetery on 239-249 Bruce Road, Wiarton, Colpoy's Bay, Albemarle Twp., Ontario Canada.

His father had married for the 3rd time to a twice widow woman Martha Armstrong-McLaughlin-Lachy on Feb 14, 1881. This resulted in two more half siblings: Lillis Blake Nov 7, 1881 and Victor Colonel Blake May 1, 1883 (who was born in Mar, Albemarle Twp., North Bruce, Ontario, Canada after the marriage was dissolved due to the return from the war of her 1st husband Robert McLaughlin (thus she was not a widow and not free to marry James Blake.

James Blake Sr. (his father) decided to start over and he follow his 2nd wife, Hannah Lee's father (James Lee) to the United States. Selling his home where he had lived with Hannah Lee and where their 4 children were born and purchasing land on Lopez Island, San Juan County, Washington Territorial area at the time. He left in June 1881 and his father-in-law had left in January from his Albemarle home. Both James Lee and James Blake Sr. were widows. It was 1887 when his father was able to send for the 4 younger children and John's spinster sister Martha Blake to join him in a homestead on Fisherman's Bay Road's north end of the island where he had purchased a total of about 230 to 250 acres of good farm land. Slowly John's siblings (now the family of 13 children) would move to Lopez Island. Elizabeth his older sister had a son but no husband (at age 18 we lost track of her and her son) stayed in Canada along with Margaret Jane "Maggie" Blake who became Mrs. Henry Norman Craig. The two children Martha Armstrong bore his father stayed with their mother and were raised in Sarnia, Lambton County, Ontario. The other 8 children moved to the United States with spouses & children or married and raised families on Lopez Island.

About 3 years after John's first two infants dies, Annie gave birth of a 3rd child Solomon John Sherman Gawley Blake on May 20, 1884 in Albemarle Twp, North Bruce, Ontario, Canada. Then Margaret Leoina Ida Victoria Blake on Oct 8, 1885 in Mar, Albemale Twp., North Bruce, Ontario and then James "Jim" Herbert Blake on oct 23, 1894 in Eastnor Twp., North Bruce, Ontario Canada.

John was a farmer, as was his father James Blake Sr. He passed away on December 24, 1927 at age 72 years, 11 months and 4 days. the day before Christmas in Wiarton, Colpoy's Bay area, North Bruce, Ontario, Canada of appoloexy (now days called a stroke)

His information for his death was provided by his Wife, Annie Gawley Blake the day after Christmas Dec 26 when he was buried in the Colpoy's Bay Edgehille Graveyard, Wairton, N. Bruce, Ontario, Canada. Undertaker was T. Henderson of Wiarton.
