James Blake Jr. the 4th child born to James Blake Sr. and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Shannon - both from Ulster Province, Armagh County, Northern Ireland.

His parents were living in the Alton area, Caledon Township, Peel County, Ontario Province, Canada. He had 3 older siblings: Elizabeth Ann Blake born abt 1853; John Blake born Jan 22, 1855; Martha Blake born Nov 5, 1857.

James Jr. was born February 21, 1859. His father was 33 years of age. A farmer who had learned farming and orchard growing from his father Thomas Blake. His Grandfather born 1790 had immigrated to Canada in 1829, bring with him is wife Ann Jane (or June) Chambers born 1798. They brought his father James at about age 4 to Canada. It is said there were 4 children but I only know of his younger brother George who came over with the parents.

In Canada, his father met his mother and they married in abt. 1851 in Ontario, Canada. She was the 3rd child of John Shannon & his wife Martha Jane Smiley. Elizabeth (who was often called Betty) was one of 9 children. Her siblings were: Sarah Shannon born between 1825-1830 in Ireland; William John/James Shannon born in 1827 in Armagh County, Ireland; herself born Jan 18, 1829 in Armagh County; Martha Shannon born May 14, 1830 in Ireland; Henrietta born Mar 6, 1834 in Keady, Armagh County, Ireland; Solomon John Shannon born 1836 in Ireland; Margaret D. Shannon born 1837 in Ireland; Thomas Shannon born 1841 in Ireland and Mary Jane Shannon born Sept 30, 1848 in Canada.

In 1844 her parents emigrated from Northern Ireland to Canada. Her older siblings Sarah would have been possibly 19,; it is possible that she may not have emigrated but stayed in Ireland. This occurred when older children have married and have in-laws in the old country.

Still there would have been at least 8 of the siblings coming to Canada from Ireland.

Elizabeth and James Blake Sr. moved the area around Seaforth, Tuckersmith or McKillop Township, East Huron County, Ontario. In this area of McKillop and Tuckersmith you will find many of the Shannon family and their names are often identical.

Elizabeth "Betty" bore James Sr. 3 more children for a total of 7 when she became ill and passed away on Mar 25, 1868. James buried her in Egmondville United Cemetery, Seaforth, Tuckersmith, E. Huron, Ontario where other family were laid to rest. James was a widow at 42 with a large family from ages 15 to 1 yr & 11 month of age.

James Jr. was 9 when his mother passed away. Two years later his father remarried when he was 10. He married a woman 30 years of age who had come from a family of 7 children herself. She became the step-mother for Elizabeth's family. His father moved all of the children after his marriage to Hannah on May 10, 1870 to Albemarle Township, North Bruce County out on a Peninsula of land in Huron Lake called the Indian Peninsula. There home was in the Wiarton-Colpoy's Bay area of North Bruce. Hannah's father, James Lee was also living in the Albemarle Township.

In 1871 Hannah bore a daughter Thomasena "Sena" Blake on July 5th. James Jr. now had a baby half-sister. 1873, May 11 another girl was born, Henrietta "Etta" Blake; next in 1876 Apr 21st another girl, Mary Hannah Blake and after 9 years of marriage Hannah gave birth to a son, Fredrick Lee Blake. 24 hours after his birth Hannah Lee-Blake passed away and was laid to rest in Edgehill Cemetery, Colpoy's Bay on Bruce Road, Wiarton, Ontario.

His father was twice widowed but now he had 11 children. Fredrick on 24 hours old and James' older sister Elizabeth Ann Blake was about 26. He had bore a son but without a husband. For awhile she had lived with the family in Wiarton but I lost track of her.

Approximately 2 years later his father married a twice widowed woman with 8 children from her 1st husband Robert McLaughlin. Martha Armstrong-McLaughlin-Lachay moved her children into the Wiarton home with James Jr. and his siblings.

His father was married on February 14, 1881. James Jr. married a bit over a year later on November 2, 1882 in Wiarton to Susannah "Susie" Craig. George Craig and Elizabeth "Elzia" Coqan became his parents-in-law.

Five (5) days later his father was provided a daughter Lillis Blake by his 3rd wife Martha. James now had 6 brothers & sisters and 5 half-siblings. His father totaled 12 children.

But early 1882, his step mother Martha was again pregnant with the Blake's 13 child when her first husband returned from the war. Records of his death were in error. Martha was still Mrs. Robert McLaughlin. She moved nearby to Mar, N. Bruce in Albemarle. May 1st 1883 she gave birth to the Blake's 13th child. A son Victor Colonel Blake.

1883, June James's father James Sr. left with his brother George to buy new land and build a new home for the family in the USA. He found land on Lopez Island, San Juan County, Washington. All the way to the Pacific Ocean in the Salish Waters of Puget Sound.

James and his wife Susannah had their first child in May of 1884 in Albemarle Township. James was probably helping his older sister Martha Blake (a spinster) take care of the younger Blake children until his father could send for them. His father's land was sold and in 1887 he sent for Martha and the 4 children Hannah Lee had bore him before her death.

Before they left, Susannah bore James Jr. their 2nd child. A son-Norman German Thomas Blake born on July 1, 1886 in Albemarle.

After his father sent for 5 of his children, James' brother Solomon Valentine joined his father on Lopez Island USA in 1888.

James & Susannah a daughter in 1889, Aug 3 in Mar, Albemarle Township of North Bruce.

1898, nine years later, James Jr., Susannah, children :Carrie May Blake, Norman German Thomas Blake, and Nellie Margarett "Mille" Blake immigrated to Lopez Island where the James Blake Jr. family would live, marry and have children.

After moving to Lopez Island, Susannah bore James Jr. two more children: Alice E born about 1917 and Eugene Blake born 1920.

James Blake Jr. lived in his fathers farm on the large farm of orchards, grain and hay. Upon his father's death in 1907. James inherited the homestead.

James Blake Jr. died at age 68 yrs. 2 months, 13 days. Leaving behind his wife Susannah age 66 and 5 children. He had at least 7 grandchildren.

Susannah later moved to stay with their daughter, Nellie Margarett "Millie" Blake-Mrs. Charles Wellington McCauley in Bellingham. Susie lived in Bellingham until her death on June 3, 1944. Susie was laid to rest in Greenacres Memorial Cemetery, Whatcom County, Washington.
