Michael Kane was the 2nd of eleven children of Bartholomew and Catharine (Holmes) Kane. The family moved from Brown Co., Wisconsin to Iosco, Waseca Co., Minnesota in 1883.

Obituary (Waseca County Herald, Fri. March 30, 1888): "Mr. J.P. Morgan, of Iosco, informs us that Michael Kanne, son of B. Kanne, of that town, died on the 20th inst., after a long and painful illness, resulting from a severe cold which he contracted while at work in the Wisconsin pineries in the spring of 1886."
