Obituary: "Mrs. Margaret McCarthy, age 88, of 816 3rd Ave. S.E., Waseca, passed away Monday 4:45 p.m. at the Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home. She had been ill for several days and death was due to a stroke. She was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on March 1, 1879 Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew Kane. She came to Waseca County as a child and lived in the county most of her life. On June 27, 1900, she was married to Joseph McCarthy at St. Jarlath's Catholic church of Iosco. Her husband died February 15, 1953. She is survived by the following children: Sister Lorraine (Mae) of the College of St. Teresa, Winona; Mrs. Arthur (Irene) McGuire, Waseca; Bernard and James McCarthy, Waseca; Sister Teresita (Margaret), Fulda; Thomas McCarthy, Waseca; Hubert McCarthy, Minneapolis; Charles McCarthy, Austin; Mrs. L.H. (Lorraine) Thompson, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Vernon (Alice) Wright, Waseca. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Katherine Slattery, Minneapolis; 30 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. A son, Justin, died April 27, 1952 at the age of 52 years. Six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart church with Msgr. A.E. Kuisle conducting. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery. Pall bearers will be Robert McGuire, John McGuire, Raymond McGuire, Joseph McCarthy Jr., Michael Wright and Charles Veflin.
