Obituary: "Mrs. Catherine Kane, for many years a resident of Iosco, died Sunday morning from the infirmities of old age. She passed away at the home of her son, James Kane, in Minneapolis, where she had made her home the past few months, and had been in failing health since the early part of February. Deceased whose maiden name was Catherine Holmes, was born in Montreal, Canada, August 15, 1840, and reached the age of 83 years and nine months at the time of her death. With her parents she emigrated to Wisconsin when a child. She grew to womanhood there and, on Nov. 24, 1861, was married to Bartholomew Kane. In 1882 they came to Iosco and located on the homestead four miles southeast of Elysian, where Mr. Kane died in 1888, and two sons since passed away. Nine children survive their mother, Mrs. David Keefe of Faribault; Mrs. John Dalton, Mrs. Andrew Slattery and James Kane, of Minneapolis; Bartley Kane of St. Paul; Patrick Kane of Portland, Ore; John Kane and Mrs. Jos. McCarthy of Waseca, and Edward Kane of Iosco. Services were held Monday morning at St. Helena Catholic church in Minneapolis, and the remains were brought to the home of E.J. Kane that day. On Tuesday morning funeral services were held at St. Jarlath's church, and interment made in the family lot. Among those who attended the funeral were Richard Holmes, a brother of the deceased; Terrance and Leo Holmes of Waldorf; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Slattery, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Breen of St. Cloud; Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dewire, Daniel Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Morrisey, Mrs. Chas. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Houer, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Andrew Miller of St. Peter; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Steppan, Richard Hayes, Ed. Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schimel, Thos. Subject, Mrs. Beasley and daughter of Faribault; Mr. and Mrs. O.F. Arnold of Janesville, Richard Maloney of Waseca, and a large concourse of old neighbors and friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives." (Unidentified newspaper of Waseca Co.)

"Death certificate shows mother as Katherine Quinn? Immigrated to the US in ~1843. After her marriage she lived in Holland Township, Brown County, Wisconsin. Came to Minnesota about 1883 lived in Iosco Township. Could not read or write English. 1900 census identifies she had 10 children and 10 were still living.
